The challenge

Real-time power-system simulators from different manufacturers could not co-simulate. There was no flexible hardware interface, and low-latency synchronization between independent platforms was an unsolved problem, limiting the modeling of large interconnected systems.

What DSAT delivered

Digital coupling of two real-time simulators from different manufacturers, OPAL-RT and RTDS, interconnected through a single fiber-optic link using the Aurora protocol, enabling low-latency data exchange and synchronized real-time co-simulation of interconnected power-system subsystems.

The result

Proven that OPAL-RT and RTDS can operate synchronously in a co-simulation environment, modeling and analyzing large-scale power systems across two different real-time platforms, overcoming traditional vendor and platform barriers.

Outcome

A unified real-time simulation environment that breaks conventional vendor boundaries and demonstrates flexible interoperability between OPAL-RT and other real-time simulation technologies.
