The challenge
Phenotyping - measuring how plants grow and respond - underpins new agrochemicals, new crop varieties and farming itself. Done visually or destructively, it was time-consuming, expensive and imprecise, slowing the path from trial to sustainable outcome.
What DSAT delivered
Smart sensors that analyse crops in any environment, capturing plant data and translating it into actionable traits. Each assay maps to its own trait set: plant volume, hue and NDVI for herbicide damage; digital biomass, 3D leaf area and NDVI for biostimulant trials; leaf angle, NPCI and plant hull coverage for drought screening.
The result
Automated, non-destructive phenotyping across herbicide efficacy, fungicide recovery, biostimulant response, drought stress, variety comparison and germination assays - objective, repeatable plant data in place of visual scoring.
Outcome
Plant science that moves faster from data to decision - bringing new agrochemicals and crop varieties forward sooner and accelerating the transition to sustainable agriculture.
