The challenge
Industrial brine high in alkaline earth metal ions and CO₂ emissions were two separate waste problems, each needing its own equipment, its own cycle and its own cost. Treated apart, neither was economic at scale - and both ended as disposal.
What DSAT delivered
A pilot plant for integrated desalination and CO₂ capture with customised reactors - feed preparation, a multistage reactor for chemical and electrocoagulation treatment, and product collection - combining brine treatment with carbon capture and utilisation in a single train.
The result
One process instead of two: cycle time, cost and equipment count all reduced. The output is high-purity calcium and magnesium carbonates in stable mineral form - a product, not a waste stream to dispose of.
Outcome
A circular-economy route for industries generating both brine and CO₂: two pollutants become a commercially useful mineral at the end of the chain, rather than two disposal costs.
